Wall Additives
Some additives are thought to solve the problems that commonly occur to the appliers and to get a faster and easy application. Others help getting special effects.
The big number of additives is peculiarity of Stucco Italiano products for the professionals.
Our additives are usually prepared to be added to a pot of 24 kg, but it is often the craftsman who decides the amount that is more useful.
AQA
AQA - AQ Additive is an acrylic polymer that is added to Pastellone to increase the adhesion and hardness, as well as to improve its workability.

Cans lt 7,2.
Storage
24 months protecting from excessive heat and ice. It has to be used instead of the water to dilute the Pastellone, The Marmorino for Floor.
There is not a precise indication of the quantity, but the packaging of AQ-A is thought to be used with one bucket of Pastellone powder.
Normally you need about 470 ml. of AQA for 1 kg. of Marmorino powder.
The pigment that have be used to tint your Pastellone can be put into the AQA before to go to work in the site.
To tint the liquid additive AQA is the easier way to tint your material. In this way you can tint also a small amount of powder, not necessary all the bucket.
DENSIFIER
Densifier is a thickener for lime based products, but it can be used on many other products with a high PH.
Application
Mix at high speed the paste that you need to thicken and pour the additive very slowly in the center of the vortex created by the mixer. Be careful that as soon as the product comes into contact with the plaster it begins the process of densification and then if you are not particularly fast in mixing you can form lumps.

FINE WAX
Paraffin Wax for lime-based stucco products protection.
Description
This is mineral wax made of paraffin diluted in turpentine.
It can be use to polish and protect all smooth surfaces such as acrylic paint or Stucco Lucido (Marmorino). As with all mineral waxes it alters the appearance of the surface slightly, giving it a pleasant, light sheen, which some people consider pleasing.
This product gives a high level of protection from splatters and dirt in general. It is recommended for use on Marmorino when the surface is exposed to extreme dirt situations / high traffic areas, such as shower stalls and public areas that are prone to get a lot of handprints.
It is also available with a metallic effect with the Gold, Silver, or Copper versions.
Application
Apply a very thin, uniform layer with a soft cloth or a metal trowel. It can be polished after a half an hour with a soft cloth or a buffer. With Marmorino, you have to be careful not to leave marks. If too much is applied in one spot without spreading it well, a dark, greasy spot can appear where the surface has absorbed too much wax.
Because of this, it is advisable that you are very careful to spread this wax very thinly, or before applying it, protect the surface first with a coat of our bee’s wax.
Please note: If you wish to paint over this wax, even after many years, it will have to be removed using paint thinner or sand paper.
FLOOR WAX - matt, semigloss, glossy
This acrylic wax needs no buffing and is specially recommended for lime-based products and products with an alkaline base.
Where To Use It
It is used to obtain good protection and waterproofing on any lime-based products.
On Venetian Marmorino:
Use it to obtain a very waterproof and washable surface, such as in shower stalls or in the kitchen above the range and sink. The glossy kind wax increases the shine of the finish and the matt kind reduces it.
For Marmorino Floor and Epoxy Marmorino:
It is recommended in areas with lots of foot traffic.
How To Apply It
It is very easy to apply using a soft cloth that won’t leave streaks or fibers.
On Marmorino Velvet and other rough finishes, it is best to roll or spray it on diluted 20-25% with water.
On material such as Venetian Marmorino, it is recommended that you apply more coats which have been slightly diluted (about 30%), but especially for the first coat.
It needs no buffing.
GLITTER CREAM
Special gel with silver metallic glitters to achieve decorative effects with our lime based plasters. Especially with Stucco Lava.
It is a gel containing silver glitters
Apply with a brush.
The product is ready to use but it can be diluted for special application.

GLITTERS
This is a metallic additive which adds a sparkling brilliance to a Marmorino finish.
How To Use
Pour the entire contents of a jar into Marmorino Veneziano Carrara which will be used for the second and third coats and mix well. Once the Marmorino is mixed with the glitter it should be used in the next 3 or 4 days. Beyond this period the glitter will begin to oxidize, dulling its shine.
Attention: the presence of these small metal flakes can cause little scrapes in the finish.
HYDROCALCE
Hydrocalce is a waterproofer, a special ecological water-based protection. It has water-repellant and dirt resistant properties, and is indicated for shiny, lime-based finishes. It is composed of modified siloxanicresins, and additives for homogeneity.
Hydrocalce makes the surface washable without significantly changing its breathability. Hydrocalce is suitable for interior or exterior wall protection.
Application of Hydrocalce
Ready to use with a brush.
Wait for the finish to dry at least 72 hours before applying (at 20°C), and apply with a brush in one or two coats, wet on wet.
We suggest to make a test in a small area before to use any product on your finished wall.

MARBLE POWDER
Of the various types of marble, few are appropriate to make a good Marmorino. This depends on the color and shape of the granules after it has been ground.
When To Use
One of the most diffuse methods to make a textureless Marmorino Veneziano is to add some marble powder to the first and second coats (a maximum of 5% of the total weight, that is 2 kg in a 24 kg Marmorino bucket).
This addition of marble powder allows the material to shrink less during drying process ensuring smooth first and second coats. The addition of marble powder does not change the color of the material.
It is also useful to add to the first coat when the surface is too rough or irregular.

MARSEILLE SOAP - Liquid
This is a 100% natural product. It comes in a semi-transparent, white liquid. The soap acts as a protective barrier against water and dirt.
It is a unique traditional protection for Marmorino which has been applied on exterior surfaces. Today synthetic waterproofing products are also used.
Why Apply It
To protect Marmorino Veneziano Classic and Marmorino Veneziano Carrara when you don’t want to use a Natural Bee’s Wax to maintain a flat finish.
It is a unique traditional protection for Marmorino which has been applied on exterior surfaces. Today synthetic waterproofing products are also used.
Application
Let the Marmorino dry at least 12 hours before applying the soap.
Apply it using a brush, a sponge or a spray bottle and spreading it thickly. Once it has dried, remove excess with a soft cloth.
Natural soap reacts with lime producing a fat molecule which impedes the passage of water. For this reason, it is advised to apply the soap while the lime is still active (ie. within 10 days of applying the Marmorino).

MOROCCAN SOAP FOR TADELAKT
It is the soap used for the body in the ‘hammam’, the traditional public baths of Morocco; it is therefore become the traditional protective treatment for Tadelakt.
It comes in dark amber and white color.
How To Use
Two applications are possible:
- Apply to the surface of Tadelakt which has completely dried with a metal trowel. Go over it several times so that it penetrates and impregnates the surface. The double action of the soap provides waterproofing and brightens up the colors.
- Apply diluted 100% with a soft cloth. Once completely dry remove the excess.
First, because the soap combines with the lime creating a fat molecule which swells in water, the surface becomes impermeable to water. And second, the olive oil not only brightens the colors, but works as a waterproofing agent as well.
Of Cultural Interest
In Moroccan baths, Moroccan soap is renowned for its exfoliating properties. A key part in the hammam ritual, Moroccan soap is rubbed vigorously onto the skin with with either a hand mitt or loofa before being thoroughly rinsed off to leave the skin smooth and supple. After being wrapped in a large towel and remaining in this steam bath, bathers finally retire to the cooling-room for a period of relaxation.
MOTHER OF PEARL
The mother-of-pearl grit obtained from seashells is one of the elements which was traditionally present in antique Venetian plasters. This is because small pieces of shell were naturally present in the sand which was used to make them.
The mother-of-pearl grit, besides containing a shiny silver color, also has elements of brown and black colors typically found in the shells. These are of the same dimension as the shiny mother-of-pearl particles and add pleasing points of color to the finish.
In Dilavato plaster, these darker parts blend in with the marble grains of the plaster itself.
For Use in Marmorino Veneziano Carrara
To obtain a marmorino with a mother-of-pearl finish, use about 1 kg of the mother-of-pearl grit fine size for each container 24 kg of Marmorino Carrara (about 4%).
Add the mother-of-pearl to Marmorino which has already been tinted and, using the mixing beater, mix it the minimum time necessary to obtain a homogenized mixture.
Marmorino Veneziano Carrara with mother-of-pearl has a more complex finish than normal Marmorino
Because of the particular form the grit takes, it tends to leave streaks on the surface. It, therefore, requires more work and expertise to achieve a good finish.
For Use in Dilavato
The suggested dose per single 20 kg bag of material is 800-1,000 gram. Use particles of 1.6 mm, Medium Size.
Add the mother-of-pearl grit at the time you mix the plaster for the last coat.
For Use in Stucco Lava
Use one jar of medium size Mother of Pearl into the last coat of Stucco Lava. Apply the stucco and leave it to dry 48 hours, than sand the surface with a electric sander and apply one layer of Natural bee's wax to fix the dust.

NATURAL BEE'S WAX
Natural bee’s wax diluted with water.
This is an easy to apply, water-based wax. Its main characteristic is that it doesn’t change the appearance of a lime-based finish. It can be used with all the lime-based products such as paint, stucco and plasters, especially with Marmorino Veneziano Carrara and Marmorino Veneziano Classic.
It provides a light protection against liquid and dirt, while increasing the shine.
Why You Should Use It
There are several reasons for applying Natural Wax: To protect or make Venetian Stucco waterproof and shinier; to obtain a different effect or change the shade of the stucco finish; and to protect or obtain special effects with Velvet Marmorino or Intonachino.
Its principal characteristic is that it doesn’t change the look of lime-based finishes while offering a protective barrier against water and dirt. It is breathable on lime-based products, giving a light protection against water penetration while allowing vapor transpiration.
The main benefits of using Natural Bee’s Wax are that it doesn't alter the appearance of lime-based finishes and offers a protective barrier against water and dirt while allowing the walls to breathe.
It is for interior use.
How To Use It
Tools necessary for application: Sponge for wax, soft polishing fabric.
GLOSSY FINISH:
Marmorino Veneziano. The Marmorino must be completely dry for at least 24 hours.
Treat surfaces no larger than a half a square meter (five square feet) at a time. Apply the wax thickly with a soft sponge going over the same spot two times. Before it dries, remove the excess wax with a soft polishing fabric cloth and then rub to a shine.
To obtain the deepest shine, go over the surface again several hours later with wool pads using an electric polisher.
On large walls, to make the application faster, it is advisable to work with two people; one to apply the wax and the other to remove the excessive wax.
ROUGH FINISH:
Marmorino Velvet, Intonachino. Apply with a brush and spread it around quickly with a clean sponge float. On dark colors, it is advisable to color the wax with the same colorant used to color the plaster because the wax itself is light color and its residues might be visible into the rough areas of the plaster.
This wax can be colored to achieve any special effect such veiled or antiqued Velvet Marmorino.
It can be diluted to have less shine or to increase the speed of application.
To lighten the Marmorino, it can be colored with our White Dye.

PRIMER NORMAL
Normal acrylic primer to prepare the substrate before painting or applying lime-based plasters.
Where To Use It
Use as a primer for Marmorino Veneziano Carrara, Marmorino Veneziano Classic, Velvet Marmorino, Lime Paint and Intonachino. Primer Normal is used in four situations:
When the substrate is dusty.
To strengthen a fragile surface which has, for example, old paint or lime paint which is adherent, yet soft.
On plaster to separate a slightly acidic material such as gypsum from an alkaline material such as lime.
To help the wall absorb uniformly when it has more than one substrate. For example, if you want to apply plaster on a wall which has been previously painted with acrylic paint, then later had its defects repaired with plaster, use a primer. However, it is not absolutely necessary to use primer over acrylic paint.
It is not necessary to use a primer if you are applying a lime-based plaster over an already existent lime-based substrate.
How To Use It
Dilute it with 1 part primer and 7 or 8 parts water (1:7 / 1:8), mix well and apply as usual with a roller or paint brush.
Use a more diluted solution, but plentifully, to penetrate and reinforce old paint which is powdery or flaky and a more concentrated solution (1:7) on dry wall, wood, or cement.
Of Interest
One percent of this resin added to a lime based stucco increases the darkness of the final color of about 25%. It can be added pure to the plaster and mixed carefully.
This resin is also indicated to consolidate and glue detached plaster. We normally fill small hollow areas with resin diluted 1:3 by injecting it with a syringe.

PRIMER QUARTZ
A very adhesive primer for lime based products. Acrylic primer containing quartz sand is used as an undercoat before applying lime-based plasters.
Where To Use It
Primer Quartz is used in four situations:
- When the substrate is dusty.
- To strengthen a fragile surface which has, for example, old paint which is adherent, yet soft.
- On plaster to separate a slightly acid material such as gypsum from an alkaline material such as lime.
- To make the absorption of the wall uniform when it has several different substrates. For example, if you want to apply stucco to a wall which has been previously painted with acrylic paint, then later had it's defects repaired with plaster it is recommended that you use Primer Quartz.
Note: If the product has been diluted, mix often to avoid sedimentation of the quartz sand/powder.
Even when the surface is coated in acrylic paint, a primer is not absolutely necessary, but we do advise using Primer Quartz before applying Marmorino Classic or Velvet Marmorino on such a surface. Quartz Primer makes the surface more rough allowing a better adhesion.
It is not necessary to use a primer if you are applying a lime-based plaster over an already existent lime-based substrate.
Why To Use Primer Quartz
You can always use a normal acrylic primer, but we strongly suggest using Primer Quartz on all surfaces which are very smooth (dry-wall, gypsum plaster, old Marmorino, wood).
By using a primer with quartz, the surface becomes rougher, increasing the contact surface area by two and a half times thereby increasing the adhesiveness of the plaster to the substrate.
Besides, it makes it much easier to apply the first coat of plasters such as Marmorino Classic.
How To Use It
Dilute by adding 20-30% water, mixing well and applying it as you would a paint using a roller or paint brush.

SAA - Strong Adhesion Agent
It's a powder additive for Pastellone (Marmorino for Floor), which increases adhesion to the surface. This permits to apply the Pastellone to very smooth surfaces, like ceramic or glass tiles, or to surfaces which require a particular adhesion, like polystyrene.
It has to be added at the first coat. It can be used also with all our lime and cement based products.
Application
Clean the surface very well, removing all dirt, grease and oil. If the surface is too smooth, make a light abrasion, using a sander with a diamond or carborundum disc.
Add the SAA for 2,5% of the weight of the dry material, or 1,8% of the weight of the wet material. Mix well.
Package
5 kg package.
Appearance
White powder.
Stockage
18 months in the original package, protected from hight temperatures and humidity.
Download Strong Adhesion Agent Data Sheet
SAA - STRONG ADHESION ADDITIVE
If you have to apply on tiles we suggest you to abrade them a little If you have to work on Polystyrene or PVC you can apply directly. The percentage of SAA that you have to use depends on the material you are working with. If it is a plaster in powder form, like Tadelakt or other, add 5% in weight of SAA mix the powder and than add the water and mix again carefully. If you have a wet plaster like Venetian Plaster add 3-4% of SAA and mix, wait ten minutes and mix again. Than you can apply it.
SALT & PEPPER SAND
This is special silica sand, which has been sieved, has the unique particle-size of 0.6 mm. Because of this, it is used with Marmorino Veneziano Carrara to obtain a special salt and pepper effect.
If normal quartz sand which has a much finer particle size were added, it would give the material a gray color.
Where To Use
It is mixed into Marmorino Veneziano Carrara.
How To Use
Add the silica sand to Marmorino Veneziano Carrara, during the second and third coats. The recommended proportion is one sack of silica sand to one 24 kg container of Marmorino Carrara.
The Marmorino Veneziano Carrara is applied normally.
It is also possible use it with Marmorino Veneziano Classic: Pour 2 bags of sand into a container of Carrara and apply this as the first coat.
Wait until the material is 50% dry and smooth out the surface with a sponge float (the right time to do that is easy to judge).
Let it dry completely (24 hours), and then finish it with two coats of Marmorino Veneziano Classic. For this finish, it is strongly recommended that you use Quartz Primer before applying the first coat so that the substrate is rough enough to work well with the sponge float.
SCA - Strong Colors Agent
Added to lime-based products, this liquid allows to reduce the use of the dye by 100% or beyond. This means that you can get colors two times darker, with the same dose of pigment. This allows to save in dyes while improving the robustness of the finish.
Application
Add up to 1.5% on the weight of the wet lime-based product to be colored. Mix well.
Appearance
Milky liquid.
Package
1 l.
Storage
Up to 36 months in original packaging. Protect from extreme temperatures and frost.
SDA - Slow Drying Agent
SDA - Slow Drying Agent is a retardant paste for lime products that lengthens the drying time allowing the applications on surfaces otherwise too large.
Can be used on all of our products based on lime and cement.
Application
First mix the material separately both the one you have to apply and want to get slower drying and the jar of SDA. Than combine the two and mix well. Normally a jar of SDA is fine for a tub of 20 or 24 kg, but can be used in lower doses.
Package
Comes in cans of 0.9 kg
Color
White
Appearance
Paste
Storage
The product can be stored for up to 72 months in original packaging when not open and protected from frost and excessive heat.
STUCCO CLEANER
This product is a paste designed to remove dirt and keep it emulsified and suspended in the wash. It is suitable for cleaning coatings previously treated with natural protections such as Natural Bee’s Wax.
It is designed to remove ordinary dirt, as well as dirt found above radiators or fireplaces. It is not for use against oil, wine or other spots which are impregnable.
How to use it
- Remove the dust from the surface if it’s too dirty or dusty. Temperature of application min. +10°C; max. +30°C.
- Spread RINFRESCA with a sponge or a cloth and rub with circular movements a small section of the surface.
- When the surface is still humid, remove the product with a clean damp cloth. Usually one coat is enough for a good result.
TERRACOTTA POWDER - Fine & Medium
Terracotta powder to give a terracotta look to Marmorino. It is used to impart a natural or rustic feeling. It is typically used on verandas, in kitchens, or in hallways to go with stone or brick flooring.
How To Use It
Add the contents of a 400 g Terracotta Fine container to a 24 kg bucket of Marmorino Veneziano Classic for use during application of the final coat. It is not necessary to add any to the previous coats.
Add the contents of a 950 g Terracotta Coarse container to a 24 kg bucket of Marmorino Veneziano Carrara for use during application of the final coat. It can be used in all the coats or at least in the last two coats.
The powder is crushed with a trowel during the final polishing phase. It is normal that small pieces of uncrushed terracotta will leave small scratches on the surface of the finish. This is one of the characteristics of this finish.
Add the terracotta just before applying it. The material should be used within a few days because terracotta makes the lime hydraulic, and it could, therefore, harden inside the bucket. Terracotta is made of clay and what distinguishes slaked lime from hydraulic lime is the presence of clay.
It’s especially effective when used in conjunction with yellow, ivory and light terracotta colors.
Attention: it is normal that small pieces of uncrushed terracotta will leave small scratches on the surface of the finish. This is one of the characteristics of this finish.
